Touch screens have certainly taken off, thanks to Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. We’ve seen touch screen kiosks and Windows PC in the past too. However, the latest trend is that of the ‘Touchscreen Vending Machines’.
Touch Screen Vending Machines in Tokyo is the new big thing at a couple of train stations in Tokyo. At the moment there are only 2 machines in Tokyo, with plans to roll out at least 8 more by October ’10. These vending machines are way too advanced. They not only provide the standard function of a vending machine but also functions as a billboard when not in use. It uses motion sensors and switches to the ‘item select screen’ when it senses a customer is right in front of the machine.
Not only that, the vending machine also has a built-in camera which tries to figure out the customers age and gender. Based on it, it will classify the drinks and also save the one you actually buy. Watch the video below to see how it works.
